The High Park neighbourhood in Toronto has a wonderful history. In 1836, Toronto’s first surveyor, John George Howard, purchased one-hundred and sixty acres of property, and in 1837, Howard built Colborne Lodge. Since his estate was located atop a hill, and because of the stunning view of Lake Ontario, Howard and his family named the property “High Park.” Many years later in 1873, Howard decided to sign over his High Park property and estate to the City of Toronto under the conditions he and his family could remain in their home, the park remained named as High Park, the park was to be free to the citizens, and he asked that there be no drinking in the park. Today, Howard and his wife are buried in High Park, and their old home, Colborne Lodge, is now a museum.

High Park offers two major shopping areas, The Junction and Bloor West Village. Located along Dundas Street West, The Junction is a newly renovated district comprised of a variety of retail stores. A more popular shopping venue in High Park is Bloor West Village, which is referred to locally as the “Village,” and it is most widely known for its European flair in restaurants, bakeries and cafes. High Park itself contains many attractions, activities and beautiful real estate. The park offers a zoo, baseball fields, tennis courts, a pool, gardens, playgrounds, trails and Colborne Lodge. There is an off-leash dog area in the park, and there is Grenadier Café, a restaurant with an outdoor patio that can seat 300 customers. The park also contains the High Park Nature Centre, a non-profit organization that educates visitors and organizes walks through the park. With its beautiful oak and maple trees, its soft, rolling hills and its quaint, meandering streets, High Park’s timeless homes are highly appealing; and sought after. High Park real estate mostly consists of late 19th century Tudor, Edwardian and Victorian architectural styles of homes. These homes are usually detached; they have been carefully renovated and restored, and they are often two and three storey homes. These High Park real estate beauties range in price from $400,000 up to a few million dollars.
